- ===================================
-
- Thank you for installing the AccessRamp 3.0 product. This product will help
- you improve your dial-up access experience, and will also help your service provider
- provide you with better, more reliable service. This product is supported on
- Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. This document assumes that you are familiar with
- the features and benefits of AccessRamp (AR).
-
- To use AccessRamp 3.0:
- 1. If you have not already installed your Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 Dial-up
- Networking, and Microsoft TCP/IP components, please install them now.
- Create your Dial-up Networking connections as usual using the Microsoft Dial-up
- Networking folder.
-
- 2. Please run the install package provided to you. When given a choice
- please choose "Complete" to get a complete install of AR 3.0.
-
- AR3.0 works in two modes:
- (a) You can use the "dialer" mode. You can use AR as your dialer (instead of
- the normal Windows Dial Up Networking, or instead of your network service
- provider's RAS dialer.
-
- (b) In the "Monitor mode" AR will simply collect diagnostic data on your
- dial-up network connectivity and report it to the AR "backend". AR will not be
- visible to the end user.
-
- The Setup Type of "Dialer Application Only" should be used if you are interested
- in only using the AR dialer, and are not interested in collecting any data
- about other dialers.
-
- The "Dial-up Networking Monitor Only" mode should be used if you are only
- interested in collecting data about the performance of any RAS dialer.
-
- The "Complete" mode will allow either mode to be used.
-
- In the "dialer" mode, the installer will create program group menus that
- you can access through the Start->Programs->AccessRamp 3.0-> menus.
-
- If you are using the AR Monitor mode, you will automatically be using AR after you
- reboot your machine.
-
- The following notes apply if you are using the AR Dialer:
-
- 3. Before using AccessRamp, you will need to run its configuration
- tool. To do this, choose "Configure Dialer" from the "Start" menu program
- folder that you chose during installation. This will bring up a dialog
- containing two tabs.Choose the "Connection" tab. Select
- "Connect to the internet via dial-up networking". This indicates that you
- wish AccessRamp to use your modem to dial out. You should also choose
- (from a drop down list) which of your Dial-up networking entries you
- want to AccessRamp to use. If you wish to change which Dial-up networking
- entry you wish to use later on, you can simply re-run the configuration
- program and choose another entry here.
-
- If you want AccessRamp to automatically dial out every time you use a
- TCP/IP network application (e.g. Netscape, Internet Explorer), please
- select the "Automatically connect to the Internet as needed" check box. If you
- bring up a networking application, and you are not already connected to
- the Internet through a dial-up link, AccessRamp will be invoked and connect
- you to the Internet using the settings that you configured above.
-
- "Remote Tests": Your provider of AccessRamp software has probably
- preconfigured all the information in the "Remote Tests" tab. You can
- change these settings at any time.
-
- If you wish AccessRamp to automatically test connectability to a specific
- Web site, choose the "Remote Tests" tab, and select the "Test reachability
- of a Web site when connected" checkbox. Please specify the Web site address
- in the URL field (e.g. www.inversenet.com).
-
- If you are using a proxy server on your network, you will also need to
- select the "Connect through a proxy server" check box and specify the
- server name and port number. Typically your network administrator can
- provide this information.
-
- 4. Once you have configured AccessRamp, you can use it to connect to
- the Internet by selecting "Dialer" from the "Start" menu program folder that
- you chose during installation. This will connect you to the Internet, and will
- provide you with context-sensitive help if you run into problems.
-
- 5. To view details of your configuration and your last call, choose
- "Call Log" from the "Start" menu program folder that you chose during
- installation.
-
- That's all!
-
- If you have any questions, please contact your network service provider
- (or the Inverse person who provided you with the AccessRamp software).
